Another Day, Another Desert

I went back down to the Alabama hills today to play around in the desert for a couple hours.  The wind was horrible, whipping through at 50-60mph.  There weren’t any critters about, but it was a nice, warm, bright sunny day, so I walked around through the rocks, and took some pictures.  Hope you enjoy seeing them as much as I enjoyed taking them!

This next one isn’t the best picture, but it’s pretty cool how the snow is drifting off the peak.  The wind is probably pushing 120mph up there.

And this is a 3-exposure HDR image of the full moon from earlier this evening…

Boring, really. But the moon itself looks pretty cool...

    Hey, Chris
I have really enjoyed your blog.

Concerning the flowers…any idea what they are?
It seems that the third picture down (with bee) is a Salvia species of some sort….beautiful photo.

Would you know of any websites that would have a catalogue of the species in your area? I have that book I bought when I was down there but it is very general, especially with the flora.
Sorry to be a pest but thanks for any help!!

  2. Hi, Nesser. I have no idea what those flowers are. You know they aren’t really my forte…they don’t hiss or slither…;).

    Checkout http://research.calacademy.org/research/botany/wildflow/index.html

I haven’t looked through it too thoroughly, but it seems to have a lot of wildflowers listed. Maybe it will help!

    Later, Gator!
