Mother Nature is the artist. I just collect the memories…

Angry Gophersnake

I had the awesome pleasure of watching 2 different Great Horned Owls at 2 different times swoop right down in front of the truck and pick up a mouse.  It was freakin’ incredible!  Unfortunately, I didn’t have time for pictures.

Also saw a big, angry Great Basin Gophersnake.  That I DID get photos of.  Enjoy!

Flattened Head

Flattened Head

Notice how he has his head flattened out in a triangle shape.  He’s trying to convince me that he is a rattlesnake…

Defensive Posture #2

Two very elevated and highly agitated defensive postures.  They rear up in that classic “S” striking pose.  He struck at least a dozen times.  I LOVE the feisty ones…

Hisssssss

Open mouth hisssssssss

Open mouth hisssssssss

Checkout the hiss!  Man do these guys have a set of lungs on them.  They have an extra flap of skin in their throats that vibrates when they expel air forcibly through from the lungs.  This vibrating flap of skin (I forget what it’s called) can closely resemble a rattlesnake buzzing.  It’s a REALLY intimidating hiss.  Luckily, it’s usually a lot of bluff…

Thanks for taking the time to look!
