A Beautiful Morning

My daughter has been begging me for a dog…specifically a Chihuahua, for the last 6 years and change. Me…I don’t like Chihuahuas.  Yippy, snappy, barky, bitey, toe-biting rat dogs…I always said we would get a dog “someday”, but stressed that we would not get a Chihuahua.  I’m such a sucker…

Yup…my daughter walking her 4-month old Chihuahua, Fleur…

This is them. 2 peas in a pod in only 3 days…

I went and hung out with this puppy for about an hour before I ever told Zayne anything about her.  She is actually a very well-behaved puppy, and very easy to train.

Anyhow…on our little walk around the desert this morning, I took a few pics of the local Autumn wildlife…

Great Basin Fence Lizard

Common Sideblotch

All in all, it’s a beautiful morning.  And yes…I know my kid is wearing 2 different shoes…

Smaller Still…

Through fall and into winter, the fish around here will feed on smaller and smaller flies.  So, it’s time to start stocking the tiny ones…

Little Flies…

A friend of mine sent me a sample of some very nice 14/0 tying thread.  What a treat!  I’ve never tied with anything smaller than 8/0, and I used to tie size 24 with that.  Tying a size 20 Stimulator has never been easier!!

Emergers for Fall Fishin’

Adding to the fly box for the fall season is fun.  I love tying caddis and parachute emergers…

Saturday Morning Bench Time

Sat down at the tying bench this morning, intent on tying up some very important patterns for the fall season…

I’m pretty happy with the way these came out.  I hope the local wild trout are, too…

Midnight Macros

I couldn’t sleep last night.  Insomnia has always been an issue for me, so I’ve learned to deal with it.  One of my tools is my camera…

I couldn’t have created better lighting for the green Praying Mantis.  It was sitting on the brass base of my porch light, glowing from the bare bulb above it, and I used a hand-held flash.  I’m pretty happy with the results of all that brass and reflected lighting…

Thanks for looking!

More from the Tying Bench

Went fishing for a couple of hours this morning, and caught a handful of really healthy browns and rainbow/golden hybrids.  Came home and the urge to tie some flies hit, so that’s what I did…

Tyin’ Them Flies Again…

I used to tie a lot of fishing flies.  I used to fish quite a lot.  I haven’t done either in many years.  Tough to find time to go fishing remote mountain creeks for wild trout when you’re trying to raise a kid…

I’ve been fishing a few times this season, and I’m going tomorrow.  I’m feeling that buzz again…that itch to hit the water, even if only for an hour or two.  I wanted to share a photo of what I’ll be using…

#18 Parachute Emerger of my own design

Not too bad, I think.  I’ll let you know if it works…
